This section is the first section in Privacy Checkup management page. It is all about your usage histories on Google services such as Google search engine, Google maps, You Tube, Android devices, web site you visited via Google search results or Chrome, etc. There are four categories in this section:
Web and App Activity
Device Information
Voice and Audio Activity
YouTube Search History
By default, only Web and App Activity that was turned on automatically when all other services were turned off. You can turn on and off (pause) these options as you wish but it may affect when you use Google services. You can delete these information manually or you can let Google delete them automatically in a period of time.
By default, Google will keep your activities on its services such as your search history, either on normal Google search engine or Google map, your location, and other data from Google services. This will help Google to give you better recommendations (including advertisement that may fit for you). You can turn it off if you don’t want to let the Google keep track you of data or you can manage how long the data will be kept in the Google system.
To turn this service on and off, you can follow these steps:
From your main account management page, click “Data and Personalization”
At “Data and Personalization”, click “Get started” at “Take the Privacy Checkup”.
At the first topic, “Personalize your Google experience, click at “(Turn on)” in “Web & App Activity” section.
Click at the “Turn-on / off” toggle button to set your desired option.
If you decide to turn it off, the system will pop-up a warning dialog and describe that many of Google services may invalid if this option is turned off and even if you turned it off, Google still have right to gather some of your usage information for their further development.
To avoid improper services, you may try to manage each activity instead of turn everything off. By default, all information is being kept until you delete it manually, which is very inconvenient. To set the automatically deletion, please follow these steps:
From your main account management page, click “Data and Personalization”
At “Data and Personalization”, click “Get started” at “Take the Privacy Checkup”.
At the first topic, “Personalize your Google experience, click at “Manage Web & App Activity” in “Web & App Activity” section.
Click “Choose to delete automatically” or "Choose how long to keep".
Set the deletion schedule, and click “Next”.
All information older than your setting will be deleted automatically when you click “Confirm” and this process cannot be undone, if you feel all right about it, click “Confirm” to finish setting.
You can also see what information that Google keep tracks on you. You can also delete them manually.
This option is similar to Web and App Activity in terms that it will keep track how you use the audio services on Android or any applications that related to your Google account. You can turn this option on or off freely with less effect to your daily usage. You can also manage to delete the information manually or automatically as well.
The YouTube Search History option was turned off by default, and when it turned off, the YouTube Watch History would be turned off and hidden automatically. When you turned the YouTube Search History on, the system will ask you if you would like to turn the YouTube Watch History on or not. This option is similar to Web and App Activity.
